Why You Should Visit Green Lake, WI This Fall

The days are getting shorter and the leaves are changing from green to yellow and orange. The kids are all heading back to school and Halloween is right around the corner. You might feel like summer is over, but in Green Lake, the summer spirit carries over into fall. The town hosts some great events, the lake is still warm and great to play in, and visiting during the off-season offers a personal experience like no other.

Off-Season Relaxation:

The kids and grandkids are back in school. Carnivals, ice cream, and seemingly endless playground visits are over and you can relax. Take an adult-only vacation and enjoy all the best parts of Whitewater. Spend a day at the museum, go antique shopping, or treat yourself to a spa day followed by an elegant dinner. The possibilities are endless!

Autumn Activities:

Apple Picking: As autumn approaches, the apples start to ripen. Head to Pineapple Hill Orchard just north of Green Lake in the quaint countryside to pick your own apples. This small family apple farm is absolutely charming and the perfect way to spend a fall day. Harvest your apples and sip on their homemade apple cider. Pick some honey crisps, which are perfect for snacking on, or some empire varieties which make the best apple pie.

Spot the Changing Leaves: Every September a golden wave rides over Wisconsin, changing the lush green foliage to a sea of yellows, oranges, and reds. You’ll notice the changes all around, but if you want to immerse yourself in a golden dream, head to the White River Marsh State Wildlife Area just north of Green Lake. You can spend the day hiking or biking around the marsh, spotting the different colors and exploring the preserve.

Corn Maze: Nothing says autumn is officially here like a good old fashioned corn maze. Luckily, one of the best little farms and corn mazes in the state is right next to Green Lake in the quaint town of Ripon. Petals & Plows Greenhouse on the beautiful Kaufman Farm designs an absolutely gorgeous corn maze every year. The farm is busting all fall long with music, games, and a wide variety of gourds and plants to purchase and decorate your home with.

Fun Fall Events:

Green Lake Harvest Festival: Every September, downtown Green Lake transforms into a haven for all things fall. On September 24-25th you’ll find games, vendors, music, a car show, and a harvest parade! Find fall decorations for your home, enjoy tasty autumn dishes like pumpkin pie, and celebrate the annual harvest.

From the Land Folk Art Festival: One of Green Lake’s largest events takes place October 19-20th. The From the Land Festival is a folk art gathering of traditional crafts and skills with demonstrations. Find a variety of locally grown produce from farmers and butchers as well as crafts and goods. On top of that, there are several mini-events going on throughout the festival. Check out the Antique Tractor Show or go to the Fungus Among Us gathering to learn about mushroom foraging and get your mushrooms identified. This wholesome event is not one to be missed!

Summer is coming to an end, but doesn’t mean your vacations have to end too. Plan your getaway and sink into serene relaxation or draw inspiration from the seasonal change. Fall is one of the best times to explore Green Lake, experience the local events, and appreciate the season’s change.
